The future of Ashford United Football Club will lie more with the club’s supporters after the ground was transferred to them.Ashford United

The Southern Counties East Football League side, only formed in 2011 after the demise of Ashford Town FC, has seen the side flourish in recent seasons.

However, issues remained off the pitch with former owner Anthony Betteridge finally transferring ownership of the ground to members and supporters, headed by Don Crosbie, one of the Directors he fought for ownership back in 2010.

A statement from the club reads:

“The ownership of Homelands Stadium has been transferred from Anthony Betteridge to Ashford Town FC Members and Supporters Club Limited. The transfer was completed on Friday 1 November 2013.”

Commenting on the news, Jamie Reid, the spokesman for the new owners, said: “The Crosbie family intends to take the Club forward by reverting to the original intention of obtaining enabling development, via the wrap around stadium plans drawn up over six years ago.”

“No further comment will be issued at this time. A formal statement will be issued in due course.”

Ashford United currently sit fourth in the league with four games in hand on leaders Tunbridge Wells with seven wins out of their opening eight games and are back in action on Saturday 16th November when they face Littlehampton Town in the Second Round of the FA Vase.
