Mat Jackson, Aron Smith and Liam Griifiin are all back on track this weekend as Airwaves Racing head to Donington Park for round two of the British Touring Cars season.
Wrotham based Motorbase Performance will once again be on the grid with their two New Generation Touring Cars in their distinctive Airwaves Racing livery, as will their Addison Lee Ford Focus driven by Liam Griffin in the Jack Sears Trophy.
They will be looking to have a better weekend than they did at the start of the season at their home circuit at Brands Hatch.
Donington Park however has proved to be a happy hunting in the last few seasons with Mat Jackson standing on the top step of the podium in 2011 and 2012. He will be looking to score a hat-trick of race wins on Sunday.
Teammate Aron Smith scored two top tens last season in his debut season at Donington and he will be looking to improve on that this weekend, as he wants to push Jackson all the way and be challenging for the race wins.
Giving his thoughts on the upcoming challenges at Donington, Jackson said: ““Brands Hatch was particularly tough and not the start that we were hoping for at all. We’ve made some big improvements to the NGTC in the weeks since and the testing has helped iron out the reliability issues we were struggling with.
“Donington is a track that we’ve done well at in the past; we picked up our first race win there last season, so hopefully with the progress we’ve made we can bounce back and get our 2013 campaign off to a proper start this weekend.”
Over on the other side of the garage Liam Griffin who won two of the three opening races at Brands Hatch will be looking to extend his lead in the Jack Sears Trophy this weekend, as it is race wins that win that Championship and not points. Although the points he scores count towards the overall Championship.
Speaking ahead of the weekend action, Griffin said: “After the relative success of Brands Hatch, it’s nice to be looking forward to going racing again this weekend, and leading the Jack Sears’ trophy certainly helps, that’s for sure! Having competed against the other Jack Sears’ contenders in the opening round, it was great to see some good clean racing again and long may that continue!
“We were the quickest S2000 around Donington on the media day test, and I have fond memories of the circuit, getting my first top ten finish in there in 2011 so hopefully we can build on that and have another successful weekend.”
Hopefully Donington Park can be a happy hunting ground for the Airwaves Racing NGTC and the Addison Lee Motorbase Focus. The action will be screened live on ITV4 this Sunday, where you can watch the local team in action.
