Wrotham based Airwaves Racing are looking to continue their recent success as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to Knockhill this weekend.
Off the back of it’s most successful weekend of the season at Snetterton earlier in the month, the Airwaves Racing squad heads to Knockhill quietly confident of another fruitful performance.
With Snetterton marking the first anniversary of the maiden run of the Motorbase built next generation touring car; the weekend proved to be the turning point in the Airwaves Racing squad’s season and the hard work and determination shown during the opening rounds justly rewarded with five trophies and three podiums; including the highly coveted HiQ Teams Trophy – having collected more points than any other team during Sunday’s three races.
The opening race of the weekend proved to lay the perfection foundations for the Airwaves squad; with Jackson and Smith finding the pace in the Ford Focus ST NGTC’s that had proved elusive so far this season. Both Airwaves Racing drivers went on to put in a near faultless performance during each of the weekends three races, managing to secure six top eight finishes; comprising of a P3 for Aron Smith in race 2 before a stunning double podium in the final race of the day with Mat Jackson and Aron Smith finishing in P2 and P3 respectively.
Speaking ahead of the weekend Jackson, said: “Snetterton was a big turning point for us, we’re in really good shape now and I’m looking forward to the long drive North to Knockhill. Hopefully, we can capitalise on the successes at Snetterton and deliver more silverware for the team.
“I’m expecting to see the usual antagonists at the front of the pack – all being well we can get in there to mix it up and get ourselves back in the battle for podiums for the remainder of the season.”
Airwaves Racing now arrives at the fantastic Knockhill looking to capitalise on its Snetterton success as the Motorbase-run outfit goes all out for another solid performance to further close the gap on the Championship leaders.
Addison Lee Motorbase team-mate Liam Griffin is eager to bounce back from a torrid Snetterton weekend after mechanical issues and a coming together with his S2000 competitors resulted in three DNF’s. The Addison Lee boss will recommence his challenge on the Jack Sears Trophy at Knockhill looking to add to his tally of four class wins so far this season.
Giving his thoughts ahead of the weekend Griffin said: “I’m looking forward to going back to Knockhill this weekend as I didn’t make it there last year. I’m hoping that we’ve gotten all of the bad luck out of the way after the dreadful weekend last time out at Snetterton.
“With any luck we’ll be back on the podium and giving Lea Wood a run for his money for the Jack Sears Trophy title!”
Round 7 of the 2013 season takes place at Knockhill circuit over the coming Bank Holiday weekend. Coverage of the racing on Sunday will be live on ITV4.
