AFC Wimbledon vs Gillingham – Preview

On Monday evening Gillingham play their last game in 2024 when they visit AFC Wimbledon in a Sky Bet Division Two match.

Mid-table Gillingham will be playing their second away game of the festive season having visited Colchester United on Boxing Day. The Gills conceded early in the first half and late in the second period as they went down two-nil.

Promotion chasing Wimbledon hosted Swindon Town on Boxing Day and were held to a one-all draw. The visitors went ahead in the tenth minute however, James Tilley equalised in the eleventh minute of the second half to ensure that the honours were shared.

Away from home, Gillingham have won three, drawn two and lost five whilst Wimbledon have enjoyed six wins, three draws and two defeats at home.

When the two teams met in March at Wimbledon, the hosts won two-nil to avenge their defeat in Kent earlier in the campaign. Omar Bugiel opened the scoring for the Dons twelve minutes before half time before the Gills were reduced to ten men when Conor Masterson was dismissed for two fouls, both warranting yellow cards. Bugiel tapped into an empty net for his second, twenty minutes into the second half, and the points were secured.

Although Gillingham are in thirteenth place at present, there are only four points between the two clubs so it promises to be a competitive encounter.
