A hot, humid night did not deter a respectable crowd of 1,402 – including 326 Charlton fans – attending the game at Kingsmeadow.
It was a decent game and Wimbledon gave their visitors a tough time. They should have taken the lead after 13 minutes when Kevin Sainte-Luce put Luke Moore through. Moore rounded David Button, only to see his shot come back off David Button’s left hand post. Moore did seem to be clipped on his way through but the penalty claims were waved aside.
Charlton fans had their eyes on trialist striker, Adamo Coulibary. The Frenchman was impressive, quick, two good feet, has vision and is not afraid to put himself about.
He was arguably the star performer in the first half, along with a fired up Danny Green. It was Green who put the Addicks ahead after 20 minutes. He cleverly beat his man before drilling a shot past Worner’s left hand.
The Dons levelled just past the half hour mark when Alan Bennett headed home George Francomb’s left-wing corner.
Green had the opportunity to restore Charlton’s lead seven minutes later, when Yann Kermorgant knocked the ball into his path, but Green dragged his effort wide.
The second half was to witness 21 substitutions, with David Button being the only player on either side to play the entire 90 minutes.
Kermorgant was seen at his impudent best early in the second half when his cheeky chip from the right drifted narrowly wide.
A corner saw the Frenchman execute one of his trademark overhead kicks. It fell short of the mark and Coulibaly narrowly failed to connect with a bicycle kick of his own.
Frustration got the better of Green shortly before he was substituted and he was fortunate to get off with a warning from the referee.
A good work out for the Addicks and Chris Powell will want to see Coulibaly in action again.
