Having completed the double header with Bristol Rovers, Welling United are back in action with a long Tuesday night trip to AFC Telford United.
Although currently bottom of the Vanarama Conference Premier, the Bucks should not be taken lightly and Welling will remember how resolute they can be from the opening day of the season.
On that day, despite being down to nine men, they held out for a hard earned 1-1 draw at Welling’s Park View Road. Kristian Platt put the newly promoted team from Shropshire ahead in the 36th minute but Godfrey Poku’s second yellow card on the brink of half time left them a man down.
Mike Phenix committed his second bookable offence in the 52nd minute and there were still twenty three minutes remaining when Harry Beautyman equalised for the Wings. The expected Welling onslaught never really happened and the Bucks repelled anything that came there way to claim a point.
They were not in league action this weekend as they visited Bristol City at Aston Gate on Sunday in the second round of the F.A. Cup. They looked to have claimed a famous draw until Kieran Agard broke their hearts in the second minute of injury time. Although another seven and a half additional minutes were played, they were unable to respond.
At home, this season, they have beaten Torquay United 4-3 and Altrincham 2-1. They have drawn three times and lost six.
Welling were boosted on Saturday with the return of Tyrone Marsh after being out for six weeks. However, on the downside, Charlie Penny was forced off injured after just eleven minutes and looks unlikely to feature at Telford.
Jamie Day should be available after serving a one match ban although he may choose to leave Sam Corne and Zach Fagan together in central midfield following their performances against Bristol Rovers.
Both teams will be eager to claim the points. The Bucks are nine points from safety whilst Welling will look to move away from the drop zone so a tense battle should be anticipated.
