Gillingham’s on loan midfielder Dan Adshead is the latest to join the injury list after it was revealed he had broken a bone in his foot.
The 20-year-old, who joined the League One club on a season long loan from Premier League side Norwich City, broke a metatarsal bone in a 1-0 defeat against Portsmouth and is set for an operation later this week.
Gills boss Steve Evans admitted it is a blow and will now discuss with Stuart Webber and Dean Smith whether Adshead will stay on loan after his rehab period.
Adshead had made 19 appearances for the Gills already this season as he looks to impress his parent club.
The midfielder is expected to be out for a number of weeks and joins captain Kyle Dempsey going under the knife this week.
Dempsey is expected to be out for at least three to four weeks with a torn cartilage, but could be out for anywhere up to eight or even ten weeks.
With no game this coming weekend and their next League One match away to Rotherham United next Tuesday night, Gillingham will use this next week to get as many of their injured players fit for the busy Christmas period.
