One of Crystal Palace, Brighton or Watford will be promoted to the Premier League at Wembley on 27 May when the Play-Off Final is staged.

This weekend, either Brentford or Yeovil will be elevated to the Championship via the play-off route. Also, the final games of the Premier League season will take place on Sunday, with one relegation spot still to be decided.

Wigan look almost certain to fill that place. Anything short of victory at Arsenal on Tuesday will effectively see them demoted, with defeat mathematically confirming it.

The summer is a hectic time behind the scenes of a football club. For a manager, assembling his squad for the next campaign is a crucial part of the job.

Chris Powell already has names in mind but turning a wish list into an assembled squad is a tricky process. Powell will take into consideration the success of the club’s junior sides and gauge whether players such as Michael Smith and Kevin Feely are ready for the Championship.

There is continuing speculation that the financial situation at The Valley may be improving and Powell has expressed his hope that he can do business in the market sooner, rather than later during the summer.
