Addicks to have a look at Stewart
Addicks to have a look at Stewart

Pre-season is a time when many clubs take the opportunity to have a look at players on a trial ‎basis.

Every summer there are countless out-of-contract players scrambling around‎ for a new club.

‎A trial period gives a manager the opportunity to assess not only the player’s ability and fitness, but his also attitude and how he gels with the rest of the squad.

Cameron Stewart is currently trialing with‎ the Addicks.‎ The 26-year-old, former Manchester United trainee, had arguably the best spell of his career at Charlton in the early months of the 2013/14 season, scoring 3 goals in 15 Championship starts.

Chris Powell was keen to extend his loan until the end of the season, but he moved on to Leeds.

Stewart has had eight clubs since leaving Old Trafford, but ‎was only with two of them – Hull and Ipswich – on a permanent basis.

He signed a two-year deal with the Tractor Boys in the summer of 2014, but failed to make a single appearance for Mick‎ McCarthy’s team.

Stewart spent the 2015/16 season on loan at Doncaster, where he made 11 starts and 15 substitute appearances in the league.

He has been out‎ of the game for over a year now. Such lengthy absences often cause a player to have more than his fair share of injury niggles when he returns.

Karl Robinson will take a careful look at Stewart, but it seems unlikely that the winger will be offered a permanent deal.
