Addicks still looking at making squad additions

Just over two weeks to go until the class of 2012/13 take to the field for the first time but how many new Charlton faces will take to the field at Welling?

New contracts will kick in on 1 July, and with Chris Powell keen to replicate last season’s successful policy of recruiting early, a plethora of activity is likely over the next couple of weeks or so.

Charlton are looking to bring in a goalkeeper, a right-back, a central defender, one or two wide midfield players, two central midfielders and a striker or two. Some of these players will be cover but others will be expected to slot straight into the first team.

Some moves will depend on the club being able to move current players on and as always, circumstances can change quickly in football.

Versatility is a useful asset and a player such as Stevenage’s Lawrie Wilson would fit the bill. A former Charlton academy player, Wilson is also wanted by Peterborough. Posh are thought to have made a better offer for the player than the Addicks, though Wilson is believed to favour a move to The Valley.

Sone Aluko is another player that appears to be on Charlton’s radar and he is thought to be in London at the moment.

The Addicks will face sterner competition for many of their targets than they did a year ago so negotiations will be more protracted.

Despite all the difficulties, there should be arrivals – and departures – sooner rather than later at The Valley.
