Addicks set for quiet window
Addicks set for quiet window

The last day of the window is a bitter sweet experience for most fans. Though they are hopeful of a signing or two to bolster their team, they are mindful that it could be weakened by a bigger club coming in for one of their better players.Charlton Athletic

The three main concerns for Addicks fans will be Chris Solly, Rhoys Wiggins and Yann Kermorgant.

Of the three, Rhoys Wiggins may be the one most likely to leave The Valley. Solly is definitely staying and reported interest from Blackpool for Kermorgant, is unlikely to tempt the charismatic Frenchman. Kermorgant is settled in the area, loves the club and is adored by the fans.

Wiggins is also happy with life at Charlton and the likelihood is there will be no significant departures.

It is no secret that Chris Powell would like to add to his midfield options. Eric Tie Bi is a player he would like to recruit but the manager reports there is a chasm between what the club will pay and what the player wants, salary wise.

Powell is still hopeful a deal can be done but talented young Premier club players could be an alternative option. Powell dismissed the possibility of Emmanuel Frimpong returning to The Valley but Arsenal look certain to bolster their midfield, so they could be looking to find a Championship club to loan Frimpong to. Tottenham’s Tom Carroll is another who may be looking for a new temporary home in the capital.

Another senior striker and possibly a back-up keeper are other areas Powell may want to strengthen.

The ’emergency’ loan window will open next week so if there is no movement today, there could still be new arrivals before the Addicks play again.

One player definitely returning to The Valley is young Irish defender, Kevin Feely. Feely’s loan to Carlisle expires on Wednesday. The Cumbrians have now signed former Exeter and Swindon central defender, Troy Archibald-Henville, so do not need to extend Feely’s spell at Brunton Park.
