One of the things that Lee Bowyer has achieved is increased interest in the Addicks. Fan and media interest has soared since he took over.
Unfortunately though, he will not be able to direct operations from the touchline for the next three games.
He has been banned for three games, and given a £4,000 fine by the FA for his conduct after the Swansea game.
Modern technology means he will be able to keep in constant touch with his coaching staff from the Directors’ Box though. Saturday’s match with Derby will be Charlton’s last of the month at The Valley.
Their three home games in November – against Preston, Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday – will all be shown live on Sky.
That sort of blanket coverage is usually reserved for the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.
Fans are supporting Bowyer’s team in increasing numbers too. The Addicks will have more than a thousand followers at Ashton Gate for the clash with Bristol City next Wednesday.
The club have taken an additional 250 tickets for the game. Four figure followings for a long distance midweek away game are unheard of.
Three days later Charlton travel to West Brom. The away alloction in the Smethwick End has long since sold out.
The Addicks have two away games next month, Millwall -their only Saturday fixture during the month – and Luton.
Tickets for the Den sold out on Wednesday, and. though tickets for the game at Kenilworth Road have not gone on sale yet, there is little doubt they will also sell out.
Those who follow the team on the road will testify to the noise and atmosphere the fans create.
Their influence on the team’s performance is something that Bowyer is always quick to acknowledge.
