Addicks progress in FA Youth Cup

he Addicks and the Lions contested a hard fought 1-1 draw at The Valley on Wednesday evening, but Charlton triumphed 4-2 in the penalty shoot-out.

Millwall took the first penalty in front of an empty Covered End. Jordan Beeney saved the Lions’ first and fourth efforts, while Chris Millar, skipper George Lapslie, Ezra Konsa and substitute, Taylor Maloney, netted all four of the Addicks penalties.

The game was played in front of a healthy crowd of 972, including a small pocket of Millwall fans.

The Lions proved formidable foes, though Charlton finished normal time strongly, and their rivals were hanging on at the end.

Both goals came in a five minute spell midway through the second half. Taylor Maloney’s right-wing corner after 67 minutes was volleyed home by Chris Millar. Millar showed terrific technique to keep his shot down.

Five minutes later, a poor clearance by Millar fell kindly for Lewis White, who placed the ball past Beeney’s right hand.

Both sides had chances to win the game in extra-time, with Millwall coming closest when they hit the bar after 111 minutes, but it needed penalties to separate the two teams.
