Jorge Teixeira duly completed his move to The Valley on Tuesday, though the four-and-a-half-year deal came as a surprise.

Teixeira is 29 and players of that age rarely get offered such lengthy contracts.

The Addicks now have Patrick Bauer, Roger Johnson, Harry Lennon and Naby Sarr, as well as Teixeira to fill the central defensive positions. Alou Diarra can also drop back into the back line.

Patrick Bauer Tweeted on Tuesday that he will undergo surgery on his groin in the next 24 hours. Dependent on the extent of the injury, Bauer could make a rapid return to action following his operation.

Tony Watt returned to Sparrows Lane on Tuesday. With less than two weeks of the window remaining, Watt’s future is unclear. Staying at The Valley is probably the most likely scenario, but a move on permanent or loan basis remains a possibility.
