Pacy Marvin Sordell and Simon Church completed moves to The Valley on Thursday as Charlton boss Chris Powell added to his squad.Charlton Athletic

Sordell has joined the club on a year long loan from Bolton, while former Reading striker, Simon Church, signed a two year permanent deal. There is also a chance that Ricardo Fuller could be offered a contract too.

Chris Powell was obviously delighted with his double capture and had this to say:

“It’s no secret that we were looking to bolster our striking options and I’m really happy to welcome Simon and Marvin to the club.

“They are two hungry young strikers with points to prove and I look forward to working with them both and watching them wear the famous red shirt,” said Powell who added this about Sordell, “He made his mark with Watford and earned a very good move to Bolton, albeit with a different manage, but his pedigree is there.

“He’s played for England Under21s and his goal scoring record is good. I’ve done the lowdown on him and spoken to his previous managers and Malkay McKay spoke very highly of him.

“He comes on loan so I’m very pleased to get him because I think he will be an exciting addition to the club, and we look forward to him scoring goals for us in the time he’s here.

“He scores goals; it’s as simple as that. He can score all types of goals with both feet and he’s a lad who has got pace, and has got a real eye for goal. He’s definitely one who will sniff chances out and come alive in the box, and I think he will enjoy playing here.

“I think we need to give him back that zest of playing and being involved week in, week out. Of course he has to earn the right to do that but I have no doubt that he will make a mark while he is here,” concluded the manager.

Powell was equally fulsome in his praise of Simon Church, adding this:

“Simon is another striker with good pedigree and Reading who have produced some very good strikers over the years.

“He’s come in and done well at Championship level and is an all-round striker, and his movement is excellent.

“That’s one thing I’ve seen straight away in training and in the game he played for us – how good his movement is. He is constantly on the move, constantly looking to be an outlet and get on the ball and link up play.

“He is a striker that will work extremely hard and will score goals. I’ve no doubt that he will get in those areas. He’s a good age, just like Marvin, and he’s one we feel could really make his mark with us.”

The duo will go straight into the squad for the game at Bournemouth, albeit they will likely start on the bench.
