In an unusual twist, Simon Clark has joined Jose Riga’s first team coaching staff.
When Karel Fraeye promoted Jason Euell to first team coach in October, Clark moved up from Under-18 coach to take over Euell’s Under-21 side.
Euell has failed to agree terms to take the first team job on a permanent basis, and has reverted to his Under-21 job.
Clark was expected to return to his Under-18 role, but has swapped positions with Euell. Riga gave his slant on the situation after the Preston game on Tuesday:
”I think that I can only master what I can master.
“I now have Simon in my staff which I am happy with because he also knows all the players, we knows the young players.
”He will help us as Jason did in the past. It’s still the same number in my staff working hard to find the solutions about the team in the next week,” said Riga.
Those words give the impression that the decision to promote Clark was not Riga’s.
Charlton confirmed that Ademola Lookman had signed an extended deal on Wednesday. The youngster’s new contract runs until the summer of 2020 and Lookman had this to say:
“It’s a great feeling to have signed, this club is very important to me and I’m very grateful for the chance Charlton have given me.
“I wanted to repay my debt because I owe something to this club. Giving myself until 2020 is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time now. I’m pleased it’s finally done.”
Charlton’s match with Middlesbrough, originally scheduled for 12 March, has been put back 24 hours, and will now be played on Sunday 13 March with a 3.30pm kick-off.
Boro are chasing an automatic promotion spot, which has prompted Sky to broadcast the game live.
The Addicks last featured in a live game on Sky in early October, when they overturned a two goal deficit to snatch a thrilling draw, with two late strikes against Fulham.
