Football is a twelve months a year game these days. No sooner does one season finish than the next seems to begin. For travelling fans this is even more the case.
Cheap train deals normally go on sale between ten and twelve weeks in advance of the travel date. For those that live some distance from The Valley, tickets need to be sourced for home games too.
Already there is plenty of information about the 2014/15 season available.
The fixtures for the 2014/15 will be released at 9.00am on Wednesday 18 June, with the draw for the first round of the Capital One Cup being made 24 hours earlier.
The Football League season will start on 9 August with the opening games of the Capital One Cup being staged during week commencing 11 August.
There will be a full programme of matches on Saturday 20 December and Sunday 28 December, as well as the customary Boxing Day fixture list.
The normal season will end on 2 May with the play-off finals being staged over the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of the month:
League Two Final Saturday 23 May
League One Final Sunday 24 May
Championship Final Monday 25 May.
Charlton are likely to announce some pre-season friendlies before the end of the season. The traditional curtain raiser at Welling is likely to be staged on either Saturday 5 or 12 July, depending on how long a warm-up campaign the club want. If the game is played on the earlier date, cheap train tickets will be on sale early next week!
With there being major remedial work being carried out on the pitch over the summer, it is unlikely the Addicks will stage a home pre-season game and they will probably request an away game for their opening league fixture. The club will probably be keeping their fingers crossed for an away Capital One Cup draw as well.
Hopefully, Charlton will have secured their Championship status by the time the curtain comes down on the season at Bloomfield Road on 3 May. Fans can then enjoy their summer, though for some the preparations for next season will already be well under way.
