Sheffield United recovered from conceding an early goal to go on to a convincing 5-2 win at Rochdale on Tuesday evening.

The Blades reclaimed second spot from Sheffield Wednesday as the top three all bagged six points from the two Easter games.

The Sun has reported that the Addicks will make another bid to bring jet-heeled winger, Jason Puncheon, to The Valley in the summer. The 25-year-old is similar in style to Kyel Reid and would add some much needed pace to Charlton’s attacking options. Charlton are reported to have made a bid in January and it is thought Puncheon would cost around £400,000.

Another player who would relish a move to The Valley is out-of-contract Leeds winger, Lloyd Sam. Sam’s move to his hometown has not been a success and a return to his former home could prove to be beneficial to both parties.

Sam is currently on loan at Notts County and notched two late goals on Monday to complete a hat-trick against Yeovil.

Colchester’s left sided or central midfielder, Anthony Wordsworth, is also thought to be on Chris Powell’s radar. The Camden born 23-year-old has a vicious shot and is capable of scoring spectacular goals. Unfortunately for Charlton, he managed to produce such a strike at The Valley last month!

Dany N’Guessan – rapidly acquiring cult hero status with Charlton fans – has hinted that he would like to make his stay in SE7 a permanent one. He had this to say to the club’s website following the Walsall match:

“I’m just enjoying playing football and we are top of the league. If we can win our last two or three games, we can do something very big.

“It’s a big club and I’m very happy to be at Charlton. I’m enjoying my football, I’m enjoying playing again and the team is playing very well, so you can’t ask for anything more.”

Chris Powell seems more than happy with N’Guessan’s contribution thus far, and described him as a ‘game changer’.

Meanwhile, the manager will be thinking long and hard about his options for Saturday. If his team can notch another win at Carlisle, they would be promoted if Sheffield Wednesday fail to win at Colchester.

Powell will be anxious for his players to get plenty of rest to ensure they are fresh for the game.
