Charlton narrowly failed to complete the deal to bring Crystal Palace’s Sullay Kaikai‎ to The Valley in time for him to play against Walsall last week.

It is thought that Palace changed the terms of the move late on, but that a deal would be agreed in the early part if this week. But the trail appears to have gone cold.

The Eagles would be prepared to sell Kaikai, which may be part of the problem. One or two Championship clubs are believed to have expressed an interest, but may not be willing to meet Palace’s valuation of the player.

With the transfer window closing next Wednesday, Charlton may need to consider switching targets.

Crucially though, Kaikai is keen to make the move to The Valley. He lives locally, and the switch would be ideal for him.

He is impressed with Karl Robinson’s attacking philosophy, and is desperate to play games.

The Addicks are stilll hopeful that the impasse can be resolved, but ideally, they need to have the player involved in the Blackpool game on Saturday.

There are also reports that Everton and Liverpool have been frightened off by the £5million valuation put on Ezri Konsa’s head.

The Merseyside giants are long time admirers of the young defender, and south coast duo, Bournemouth and Brighton, are also believed to be interested.

If Konsa is sold, it may allow Robinson some leeway to bring players in, but not if the sale is not completed until just before the deadline.

Again, it is likely that negotiations are ongoing, and it would be no surprise if Konsa did leave The Valley this month.

Robinson has said that if the player is sold, he would like him to be loaned back until the end of the season.

That is an unlikely scenario, as the conditions the buyer would make would probably be prohibitive.

It is thought Liverpool wanted a seven figure sum to allow Joe Gomez to stay at The Valley for the season when they bought him.

Amidst all this, Robinson has to prepare his team for Saturday’s trip to Blackpool. New signing, Michal Zyro, will make his bow in the game.

Zyro is a pacy, left-footed player who can operate on the left, the right or through the middle.

The Addicks intend to use him as a striker, and with the likes of Stephy Mavididi and Tariqe Fosu available, they have one of the quickest attacks in the division.

Given better luck with injuries, Robinson will be hopeful that his team can make the play-offs.
