Young Charlton striker, Michael Smith, played his last game for Newport County in the Welsh derby with Wrexham on Friday evening.
Smith has now returned to Charlton and will be hoping to push into the first team picture during the second half of the season.
Paolo Di Canio has said he is willing to pay £30,000 from his own pocket to try and keep his three loanees – including Danny Hollands – at Swindon. Hollands’ loan expired at the weekend and Chris Powell was keen to have the midfielder’s immediate future settled last week. There has been no reports that Hollands has returned so it seems likely that he will remain at the County Ground.
The Addicks cancelled Leon Clarke’s contract on Monday afternoon, enabling the striker to pen a deal that will keep him at Coventry until the end of the 2014/15 season. Clarke was signed from Swindon a year ago in a deal that took Paul Benson in the opposite direction. The move never worked, Clarke made just one start for Charlton and was loaned to Crawley just two months after joining the Addicks.
If Clarke never captured the Valley faithful’s affections, Jon Fortune certainly did. The popular centre-back moved to Barnet last season, after his second spell at The Valley had ended. Fortune made just twelve appearances for the Bees and Fortune also had his contract terminated on Monday.
The Charlton Under-21 team will play a friendly at Tottenham on Tuesday and most interest will centre on the return of Rhoys Wiggins, who will be playing his first game since sustaining a metatarsal injury against Crystal Palace in September.
