Northampton based sources have revealed that the Addicks are keen to bring Northampton Town’s Ricky Holmes to The Valley.
Rochford born Holmes is a winger who can also play as a striker. He had a fine season with the Cobblers and his old boss, Chris Wilder, will probably also be monitoring the situation.
Sheffield United already have former Millwall man, Martyn Woolford, playing in Holmes’ preferred position though, so Wilder will have to consider his options.
Holmes will be 29-years-old later this month, and played for Chelmsford, Barnet and Portsmouth before joining Northampton last summer.
Charlton recently had a bid for Colchester midfielder, George Moncur, turned down but are sure to return with a fresh offer. Barnsley and Sheffield United are also interested, but a London based club would probably be more appealing to the 22-year-old.
The Addicks are set to unveil their new manager in the early part of next week, and the recruitment process will then crank up a notch.
It will be a hectic summer at The Valley, there will be a lot of activity, both in and out. The club will be anxious to move a number of players on in order to free up funds for new arrivals.
Rumours and moves will gather pace as the month progresses. The European Championship Finals will dominate the football world, but further down the food chain, lower league clubs will be busy assembling their squads for the 2016/17 season.
It is a sobering thought that the players will report back for pre-season training in little more than three weeks.
The traditional curtain raiser at Welling is only five weeks away, and the squad will depart to their Austrian training base a few days after that.
