Addicks go out of FA Youth Cup
Addicks go out of FA Youth Cup

The young Addicks will consider themselves very unfortunate not to be facing Everton in the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup. Ebbsfleet United

They had numerous chances throughout the game but could not get the better of inspirational Arsenal keeper, Josh Vickers, who single handedly kept the hosts at bay.

The danger when a side dominates but fails to score is that they are open to a sucker punch. And so it proved to be. With eleven minutes to go, a cross fell invitingly for Alex Iwobi to stab home.

Vickers then made another trio of stunning saves before, deep in stoppage time, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, tapped home from close range. A Gunners breakaway left the visitors with a two-on-one situation, which presented Maitland-Niles with a simple chance to wrap the game up.

There was still time for Arsenal to find the back of the net again but the effort was ruled out for offside.

It was a disappointing and cruel end to a good FA Youth Cup run for Charlton.
