Addicks facing tough test
Addicks facing tough test

Rotherham breezed into a 4-0 lead against Bolton at the New York Stadium on Tuesday evening, though the Trotters did rally late on to reduce the deficit to 4-2.

Many Charlton fans have Saturday’s game earmarked as a win for the Addicks, whilst some are categorising it as a must win game.

After last night’s result, a win for the Millers would see them climb above Charlton in the table.

Rotherham’s recent away form has been reasonable considering their lowly place in the table. They lost 1-0 at Brentford in their last game on the road, but before that they had drawn three and won one of their previous four away fixtures.

They drew 1-1 with Blackpool, won 2-1 at Wigan and drew 0-0 with both Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday.

In short, they are a solid unit, hard to break down and concede few goals.

The Addicks have failed to score in their last four league games and have netted just one goal in their last six. They have won twice in their last eighteen matches in all competitions and have not won since beating Reading at the Madejski Stadium in early November – a run of twelve games.

At The Valley, Charlton have failed to win since Bolton were the visitors in late October. This run of poor form cost Bob Peeters his job and the Valley faithful will be hoping Guy Luzon can turn the club’s fortunes around.

The Addicks are crying out for a target man like Conor Sammon, recruited on loan by the Millers from Derby earlier in the month.

Sammon will probably be partnered by Matt Derbyshire on Saturday, with the likes of Ben Pringle, Adam Hamill and Danny Ward available to provide service from the flanks.

Luzon made a promising beginning to his Charlton career at Molineux and will be anxious to get off to a winning start in his first home game at the helm.

A win would give everyone connected with the club a lift, but it will be far from easy against Steve Evans’ determined outfit.
