Addicks facing injury issues

Currently on the injured list are Stephen Henderson, Johnnie Jackson, Simon Makienok, Cristian Ceballos, Igor Vetokele, Reza Ghoochannejhad and Regan Charles-Cook, while Franck Moussa has recently returned after nearly a year out.

Henderson was injured in the pre-match warm-up at Dulwich Hamlet in mid-July. Ironically, Henderson had returned home from the training camp in Spain as a precaution.

His shoulder needed surgery, and though he is now back in training, there is still no indication of when he is likely to be fit enough to return.

Henderson is a vocal keeper, and his organisational skills – as well as his undoubted quality between the sticks – have been sorely missed.

The popular Irishman has been dogged with injuries throughout his career, and will now be hoping for a spell without needing to visit the treatment room.

Johnnie Jackson is another who has been plagued by injuries of recent times. After finally returning to full fitness, the skipper has struggled to break into Guy Luzon’s team.

He looked certain to play in the Capital One Cup game at Selhurst Park last week, but picked up a knock in training on the eve of the match. Jackson will not be fit enough to be involved in the Fulham game on Sunday.

Simon Makienok is another who will not be fit to face Fulham. Makienok picked up a hamstring injury against Wolves at the end of August, and had to be withdrawn after just 18 minutes.

He may have been rushed back too quickly, and after coming on as a substitute against Rotherham, he had to be withdrawn in the following game against Huddersfield.

Fulham will be the fourth game in a row that the big Dane has missed.

Ceballos injured his leg in August, during the game against Hull at The Valley. He was expected to be out for a week, possibly two, but six weeks have now elapsed, and there is still no sign of a return for the Spanish winger.

Strike duo, Reza Ghoochannejhad and Igor Vetokele, are also ruled out of Sunday’s game. Ghoochannejhad was injured in the game at Nottingham Forest in August, and was expected to be sidelined for about a month.

Vetokele played most of last season while carrying an Achilles problem. He picked up a groin problem in pre-season, and was ruled out of the first five games of the new campaign.

Vetokele is now suffering with an inflamed pubis.

One bright spot has been the return of Franck Moussa. Moussa has been out for nearly a year and will e anxious to make up for lost time.

It is not only the number of injuries that will concern Luzon, the recovery time has been longer than anticipated in many cases.
