Tickets for Charlton’s 6th Round FA Cup match with Sheffield United are selling briskly.
After going on restricted sale at just after 11.00am on Thursday morning, the club had sold well over a thousand by 2.00pm.
If the game with the Blades is drawn, the replay at The Valley would take place on Monday 17 March. The rearranged game with Bournemouth would be put back 24 hours and played on Wednesday 19 March. The scenario would leave the Addicks having to play five games in ten days:
Wednesday 12 March Huddersfield (h)
Saturday 15 March Millwall (a)
Monday 17 March Sheffield United (h)
Wednesday 19 March Bournemouth (h)
Saturday 22 March Burnley (h)
After that, Charlton would be playing two games a week, every week, for the rest of the season. In addition, victory over Sheffield United would mean the Brighton game would have to be added to the overcrowded midweek schedule.
Cup success could come at a very high price league wise.
Chris Powell told the assembled press corps on Thursday morning that long term injury victim, Leon Cort, would be back in training next week. The return of the commanding central defender would be a valuable bonus to Powell as he deals with the fixture backlog.
Young strikers, Joe Pigott and Tobi Sho-Silva, have had their loan spells at Gillingham and Welling respectively, extended.
