Charlton will play League One Colchester at The Valley in the first round of the Capital One Cup.
The game is likely to be played on Tuesday 12 August with a 7.45pm kick-off. Prices are likely to be set at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
With the Addicks requesting an away game for the opening fixture of the Championship campaign, the Colchester match will be the first game of the season at The Valley.
The two sides last met in the competition in 1979, the Addicks winning a two-legged first round tie 3-2. All the goals came in the first leg at Layer Road, with Derek Hales, Terry Brisley and Phil Robinson scoring for Charlton.
Ironically, the Addicks are scheduled to visit Colchester for a pre-season friendly on Wednesday 30 July.
