Ebbsfleet United made their first summer signing this week with manager Daryl McMahon adding midfielder Ebou Adams to the squad for the 2018/19 season.
Adams is a familiar name to non-league fans in Kent having played for Dartford previously. The ex-Norwich midfielder is a real coup for McMahon and Fleet as Leyton Orient were also interested in signing him this summer. Having played 16 times for the O’s last season they probably considered that they were in the box seat for his signature this summer.
McMahon had other ideas and had been monitoring his situation for sometime and was ready to make a move for one of his targets, and was clearly delighted to have got his man.
Speaking to Fleet online, he said: “He reminds me of someone like a young Paul Ince. He’s young, he’s hungry, he can do both sides of the game. He can play, he can run and I think he’s got huge, huge potential as well. I’ve come up against him in my earlier days at Ebbsfleet, I noticed him then and then he played against us in the game at Dartford up against Stuart Lewis and Dean Rance. That was his debut, up against them two, and he gave a very good performance in that.
“I’ve kept an eye on him since then,” McMahon continued, “and he’s gone on to Norwich and Leyton Orient where he had a fantastic end to the season there. We’re excited to have him and he’ll be a big player for us.”
McMahon is now working hard on recruiting a number of other targets for the coming season.
