Kent coach Jimmy Adams has told KSN he is looking forward to the prospect of working with new captain James Tredwell.James Tredwell Eng9

The two will work side by side as they look to mould the Kent side into one that is capable of challenging on all fronts this  summer with Tredwell having taken over the Kent captaincy after Rob Key stepped aside after seven years in the job.

One of Tredwell’s first jobs as Kent skipper will be to try and assert his authority on the side with Key to revert back to being just a batsman, but Adams doesn’t feel that will be a problem for the 30 year old and he’s looking forward to having the spinner take over the captaincy:

“The one thing with sport and it’s the same as life, there’s one thing that you’re guaranteed and that’s change. Nothing stays the same day by day, let alone season by season.”

“It’s a transition from Rob to Jimmy and having been involved in quite a few such transitions in my time is it helps having two people that have played together for a very long time.”

“They’ve both come from a similar culture and come through the ranks in a pretty similar fashion from youth cricket.”

“They both share a deep passion for the club and the future of the club.”

“It’s another thing for me to look forward to as they’re both very different personalities, but I think that’s a good thing. It’s an interesting time and one all of us are looking forward to.”

Jimmy Adams2Tredwell is currently in New Zealand for the next month as England play three Twenty 20 internationals followed by three One Day internationals.

Having spent time in India with England both before and after Christmas, Tredwell has missed out on a lot of time at home, but Adams doesn’t believe it is a problem and with technology the pair keep in touch on a regular basis:

“Jimmy might miss a bit of pre-season because of international commitments, but that’s part and parcel of the game and it’s good to have your international players in the spotlight.”

“We’ll get started with things whilst he’s not here, but we can’t wait to get started under his leadership.”

“Skype is the thing for us and it’s not like how it used to be from back when I was playing and it’s so much easier to stay in touch.”

“We are in touch regularly and even with the distance you can tell he’s got the passion not only for leading the team, but for the club in general.”

Meanwhile, Adams is hoping the Kent skipper gets the chance to replicate the form he showed in India which saw him take eleven wickets in five ODI’s when England take on New Zealand:

“One of the things I’m happy about is the consistency he’s shown. He works very hard as I’m sure all of them do at that level. We’re all very proud of him and wish him the very best whilst he’s away.”
