Adams backs Coles to come good

Jimmy Adams has backed fast bowler Matt Coles to prove a point for Kent after being sent home from the England Lions tour to Australia.Matt Coles6

Coles, along with Durham’s Ben Stokes were sent back to England after repeateded unprofessional conduct with the pair said to have broken a curfew on more than one occassion.

Now back at Canterbury as Kent begin their pre-season training, Coles will be once again under the watchful eye of the Kent management and Jimmy Adams told KSN how he has sat down and spoken with the 22 year old about his future:

“We’ve sat and discussed it and I am happy with where we are now. Matthew understands he made some poor decisions and he’s very
keen to move on and prove to people it was a one off and he’s a better man for having learnt from the experience.”

“Our job now is to support him in that push forward, which we will do and try and see if we can get him back to that level and
beyond as quickly as possible.”

With the disappointment of having been sent back to England, Adams believes there could come positives as Coles will want to prove to the England selectors that he warrants another chance:

“He knows he is a youngster with ability and he’s learning very quickly the requirements of playing high level cricket.”

“The club backs him and I certainly think he will have learnt a lot from the experience as bad as he may felt it to be and it’s
just a case now of proving to people that you can learn from your experiences and turn them into positives.”
