Kent County Cricket Club have appointed former West Indies captain Jimmy Adams as their new Head Coach.

Adams replaces Paul Farbrace who left his position as Director of Cricket in September after Kent failed to produce the results they would have wanted in his two seasons in charge.

The 43 year old Jamaican played 54 Test Matches for the West Indies and went on to skipper the side in 2000, whilst having a season in county cricket in 1994 for Nottinghamshire.

In recent seasons, Adams has played for Maidstone based side Lashings along with working as a pundit for Sky TV.

Since retirement from cricket in 2004, Adams has coached the West Indies Under 19 team, and most recently has been Technical Director of Jamaica Cricket.  He is also the President of the Federation of International Cricketers’ Association (FICA) a position he has held since 2008.

Jimmy Adams commented on his appointment; “I am delighted to be given this opportunity as Head Coach at Kent Cricket. They are a county with a proud history and tradition”

“I look forward to working towards further success in the year to come and can’t wait to get started.”

Graham Johnson, Chairman of Cricket commented; “We were delighted to have had such a strong field of candidates for the role. I believe we have run an extremely thorough process to select our new Head Coach, and are delighted that Jimmy will take up the position.”

“He has a strong desire to see young players develop and this shone through in our discussions with him.  He also has a tremendous amount of experience from his time in international cricket – particularly as Captain. We welcome Jimmy to Kent and wish him the very best of luck.”

In recent weeks, Adams has been coaching at the G Force Cricket Academy in Dubai, but will leave that position to take up his role at the St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury.

The Jamaican will return home on Thursday whilst he tries to sort out a work visa and is hoping to be able to return to Kent by the start of February where he will begin a two year contract with an option to extend that deal further.

The appointment of Adams as Kent’s Head Coach follows the signings of bowler Charlie Shreck, batsman Mike Powell and all-rounder Ben Harmison.
