After a two week break from league action, Charlton now face three games in a week, two at The Valley and one on the road. It is essential that they take a rich haul of points from these games.
Lee Bowyer should have some of his players back from injury. Krystian Bielik has been away with Poland, and Bowyer will be hoping he got some minutes under his belt.
Bielik’s availability would give a more balanced look to the defence. Chris Solly could return to his natural right side, Jason Pearce could go back to playing as the left sided central defender, with Bielik slipping in alongside him. Naby Sarr could fill in at left-back.
First up are Barnsley on Saturday. The Tykes will be a tough nut to crack but Bowyer will relish the challenge.
The following two games must be viewed as very winnable though.
Karl Robinson brings his lowly Oxford side to The Valley on Tuesday. Ironically, Robinson left the Addicks in March as he thought a takeover was imminent, and he feared for his job.
His move to the Kassam has not been a success, and his job hangs in the balance. Despite investment in the team, Oxford are languishing at the foot of the table.
Bowyer will know all about how Robinson will set his team up, and will be confident of beating his old boss.
Charlton travel to Rochdale next Saturday, and Bowyer will again be confident of picking up three points.
Dale have a decent record on the road, but have struggled at home. Gillingham are the only side they have beaten at Spotland, and they have suffered some heavy defeats.
The three games give the Addicks a good chance to get back on track. It is an opportunity they need to take.
