Sheffield Wednesday’s utility defender, Lewis Buxton, is the latest player to be linked with a move to The Valley.
Buxton is 31-years-old, whose preferred position is right-back.
Buxton made 53 league appearances for Stoke, before joining Wednesday in 2009.During his time at Hillsborough, he has made 196 league appearances, but only 9 of them during the 2014/15 campaign.
The Owls will release Buxton when his contract expires at the end of June.
Charlton have some decisions to make about the right-back berth. Chris Solly did not have his best season and his on-going knee problem will continue to hinder him.
Lawrie Wilson has provided the back-up for Solly of recent seasons, but he is moving on, so cover will be needed.
The question Guy Luzon will be asking is whether he just needs cover for Solly, or a player who can genuinely challenge the dual Player of the Year for his starting place.
Buxton is likely to want assurances of playing on a regular basis before he commits to a new club. Is he good enough to put pressure on Solly? It seems unlikely.
Buxton can provide cover all across the back-four but the Addicks may be looking for a higher grade specialist right-back.
