Kent runner Steve Wolfe has embarked on his latest epic challenge to raise funds for Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) by running 50 half marathons in 50 days.

Steve was inspired to support KSS after he, along with the team of volunteers and runners, performed CPR on a parkrun participant who had a cardiac arrest last spring at Sittingbourne parkrun and was cared for by KSS.

The parkrunner has since made a full recovery thanks to the actions of Steve and the team, having used the defib they had with them and he is back both volunteering and taking part at Sittingbourne parkrun.

Steve, who turned 50 this year, is running 50 half marathons in 50 days, having started on Saturday with his first that incorporated Sittingbourne parkrun.

The #50in50 challenge will see him run over 1,000 km as part of an even bigger challenge, to run a distance equivalent to circumnavigating the world (40,075km).

Saturday 2nd November was his 2,864th consecutive day of running having started back on 31st December 2016.

He is due to reach 25,000 km on his `Run The World Challenge’ on Wednesday 13th November, leaving him with “just” 15,000 km to go. By the end of November he will pass 5,000 km run this year, something he has never done before.

During his `50 in 50’ Steve plans to visit the KSS bases at Redhill (Friday 8th November) and Rochester (Tuesday 26th November).

Steve said of this latest challenge for KSS: “Running every day is hard enough, so taking it up to a half marathon a day for 50 days will be the hardest thing I’ve done in this challenge so far, so I’d welcome anyone that can sponsor me – every pound matters!”

“I’m honoured to be doing this challenge, raising awareness of the significant role KSS plays in our local community and helping them to save lives.”

In 2023 Steve ran `the world’s worst marathon’ as part of his round the world challenge. This involved running 63 laps of a 670m circuit where he lives on the same day as the London Marathon.

Last November, he celebrated reaching the halfway point in his `Run the World’ challenge by undertaking an amazing `base to base’ run of over 60km between the KSS bases at Redhill Aerodrome and Rochester Airport along with a group of running friends.

Lola Inge, Running and Challenge Manager at KSS said: Steve’s dedication and passion are inspiring, and the funds he raises will make a real difference to the lives we save every day. We’re incredibly grateful for his support.”

“If you’d like to take on a challenge of any size and support our lifesaving work, we would love to hear from you.”

KSS has just launched its Christmas Appeal, `Ready to Save Lives’ which is helping ensure that its specialist doctors and paramedics will be there for people across Kent Surrey and Sussex in their hour of need. For more information visit www.aakss.org.uk/ready
