Huddersfield twice came from behind to snatch victory from a battling Charlton side on Tuesday night.
Chris Powell opted for a 3-5-2 formation with full-backs, Lawrie Wilson and Cedric Evina pushed into advanced positions. Johnnie Jackson and Dale Stephens returned from injury, with Bradley Prichard completing the midfield quintet. Marvin Sordell and Joe Pigott were entrusted with providing the firepower.
The visitors dominated the early procedings and deservedly took the lead after 32 minutes. They were awarded a free-kick on the left hand corner of the box after Evina had been fouled. Dale Stephens drilled the ball in hard and low and his effort took a deflection and went in at the far post.
The Terriers levelled eight minutes later when Joel Lynch squeezed an effort in at Hamer’s near post.
Just before the hour mark, the Addicks regained the lead when Evina and Pigott set up Sordell who smashed the ball home.
Charlton succumbed late on. First, Jonathan Hogg’s attempt from the edge of the area was deflectd in, then Adam Hammill was on hand to finish off after Hamer had made a good stop.
So Charlton’s woeful cup record continues, albeit with a much improved performance.
