25 year old kart racer Bradley Sargeant from Broadstairs continued his unbeaten run in the Formula 6 championship by taking victory in both heats and the final at Lydd International Raceway.
Sargeant only managed to complete three laps in the morning qualifying session due to last minute change to the kart but still managed to qualify second on the grid for the two heats.
In the first heat Sargeant managed to snatch the lead at the first corner and after a battle with Graham King who lies second in the championship in the opening laps managed to pull out a commanding lead. A repeat of this in the second heat gave Sargeant pole position in the final.
“After the two heats I was quite confident going into the final, the kart had been performing well all day. I got a great start and kept the lead going into the first corner, I had good pace and managed to pull out a comfortable lead, at around the half-way point of the race I had enough of an advantage to stop using the kerbs so much as Lydd has a bit of a reputation for as a kart breaker.”
Sargeant took the chequered flag to take his fifth of the season and his seventh race in a row after winning the final two races of the previous season.
Sargeant now commands a 76 point lead in the title race with just two rounds to go, and needs just a sixth place finish at the next round at Clay Pigeon Raceway in Dorset on the 15th September to retain the championship.
“The season has been going fantastically well and it was great to get this win at Lydd, it is the first relatively local race for a while so it was great to have the family there to support me. It means that I am quite close to retaining my title now but I am not going to take anything for granted, we need to keep pushing and it would be great to complete a clean sweep and win every race of the season”
“I would like to thank every one of my sponsors, Lanes Printers, SunDays Tanning and Beauty, BSB Group Paint Factors, Smallbone Interiors and All Sign Solutions. The Support these guys have given me this season has been unbelievable and without them and the great support from my Dad, Alan, I would not even be racing this year let alone winning so many races.”
Bradley’s next race is a one off round of the British Championship at Glan-y-Gors Park in North Wales this weekend.
