Bank Holiday Monday wasn’t the best of bank holidays for Holmesdale manager Ian Varley, despite the late summer sunshine he saw his side fall to defeat.
Forest Hill were the visitors to Oakley Road, and left with all three points after winning the game 2-1, Forest Hill were ahead at half time 2-0, but the Dalers came back in the second half, scoring soon after the restart but they couldn’t find the all important equaliser.
Speaking after the weekend, Ian said: “It was extremely disappointing as we should be winning these games, especially at home. Unfortunately we gifted them two goals in the first 10 minutes which you can’t do at any level.”
As said previously they were two-nil down at half time, but a half time team talk from Varley saw a much improved performance in the second half.
Ian added: “I just told them what they needed to do to get back in the game and after scoring one minute into the second half I thought we would comfortably go on and win it but it wasn’t to be.
“Fair play to Forest Hill they defended well at times but we had enough chances to at least get a point from it. It can’t take us 45 minutes to get into games though that was my biggest disappointment.”
The Dalers are back in action this weekend, and once again they have a home game and against tough opposition in Bridon Ropes, Ian is hopeful that they can get back to winning ways.
He said: “It’s early in the season, we’ve got a game in hand which would put us two points behind second place so we have a long way to go. Every game is important so we will be looking to get three points against what will be a very good Bridon Ropes side.”
